Night Lights
For slide based planetariums
The stars may be immune to humanity’s influence, but our view of the night sky is not. Today, most children have heard of the Big Dipper and the Milky Way, but many have never seen these celestial splendors. In Night Lights, we explore the challenges that light pollution presents to stargazers of all ages. Discover the benefits of protecting the darkness of the night sky along with safety-conscious strategies for combating light pollution.
While we may never be able to return the city sky to its original pristine state, there are plenty of objects that can be observed from a suburban backyard using an inexpensive pair of binoculars. Night Lights shows you where and how to look.
There are two versions of the soundtrack. The original form runs 36 minutes, plus walk-out music. The abridged version (29 minutes) allows time for your brief introductory tour of the current night sky. This also provides a better set up for the binocular observing section included in the prerecorded program.
